"You track X to the catacombs of the Arts Building after Tuesday’s class, past that whiff of
plumbing in the vents. It’s cold outside but you don’t want warmth, you just want to go on
thinking about him. All semester you’ve been criss-crossing the campus, ducking into doorways,
hoping for a glimpse of his dark-blue corduroy blazer. Now you’ve tracked him to the heat-
pumped café, where Lebanese guys in white aprons serve up bagels with lox and a side of
pickles. You could step inside, but face-to-face isn’t your style. If you weren’t hypertrophic,
you’d order a coffee..."
